Crews take down flood-damaged church

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Demolition of a flood-damaged church in Cedar Rapids began on Friday.

Demolition crews brought down most of the main structure of the Trinity United Methodist Church, which had more than five feet of water in its sanctuary last June.

The congregation concluded repairs would be too costly and decided to demolish the building.

Rev. Bob Voels says plans for a new building have yet to be decided, though he says there eventually will be a new sanctuary.

The congregation has been meeting in the church office building. Voels says the congregation is thriving despite the loss of their church.
