Waterloo (KWWL) - Each year, tens of thousands die in the U.S. from vaccine-preventable diseases, but now more than $2-million will come to Iowa to support immunization programs.
The funding was secured through the Economic Recovery Package as part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Grants Program.
Most children served with this funding are under-insured or their parents cannot afford the out-of-pocket costs required to fully vaccinate their children.
Senator Harkin, who helped pass the bill says, "With this funding, Iowans will ensure we take preventative measures to ensure the next generation is a healthy one."
