UPDATED: Former Kernels pitcher dies in car crash

ANAHEIM, California (KWWL) - A former Cedar Rapids Kernels pitcher died in a car crash early Thursday morning.

22-year-old Nick Adenhart died just hours after he pitched six shutout innings for the Los Angeles Angels.

Investigators say 22-year-old Andrew Gallow was intoxicated and pulled out in front of the car Adenhart was in.  Gallow has been charged with vehicular manslaughter along with felony hit and run and driving under the influence.  Murder charges are possible.

Adenhart is originally from Maryland and pitched for the Kernels in 2006.

He made his Major League Debut last season.

Going into this season he was considered by some as the top prospect in the Angels organization.
