Finley in Dubuque flies "Donate Life" flag

Dubuque, IA  - Finley Hospital, along with 60 Iowa hospitals (half of the hospitals in Iowa) and thousands across America, have made a commitment to fly the Donate Life Flag during the month of April. The Donate Life America mission is to serve as a national voice and inspire all people to save and enhance lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. Locally, the Iowa Donor Network is spearheading this campaign and inviting Iowans to view these flags locally and to register their intentions to be donors by visiting . Individuals who want to donate organs or tissue can also indicate this desire in their will or when they register for or renew their driver's license.

"We hope displaying the Donate Life Flag at Finley will make people stop, take notice, and take action to sign up to be an organ, eye and tissue donor," says Karen Sabers, RN and volunteer Organ Donor liaison at Finley.  "A donor gives others a valuable gift -- the gift of life."

Sabers conducts approximately 20 Organ Donor Awareness Classes for junior high and high school students annually. "People need to be aware of their loved one's decision to donate so their wishes can be upheld. This way, family members won't need to make those decisions at a stressful time."  states Sabers.
