Hands on science lesson

Cedar Rapids (KWWL) - Some eastern Iowan students got a first hand look at the impact of last year's flood on Cedar Rapids.

Mckinley Middle School students toured the badly damaged Czech Village and Indian Creek Nature Center as part of an eight week class on erosion and weathering.

Students were given a hands-on education on how last year's flood impacted different communities as well as an opportunity to be involved in the rebuilding process.

"It's sort of sad because i'm Czech myself and it disappoints me that all of these historic places are gone and some of them wont' be restored," said 7th grader, Alana Zalesky.

Each student will write a letter to city council detailing his or her findings and recommendations as part of the final project for this course.
