CCR to play in Dubuque's Riverfest

Dubuque (News Release) -- The America's River Corporation is proud to announce the main stage entertainment for the America's River Festival.  The event will be held June 12-14, 2009 at the Port of Dubuque. 

Creedence Clearwater Revisited will roll into Dubuque on Saturday, June 13th and hit the America's River Festival main stage at 9:00 pm. With song's like ‘Have you Ever Seen the Rain', ‘Proud Mary' and ‘Fortunate Son', Credence Clearwater Revisited is a vibrant and exhilarating band that span several generations. Their most recent CD release "Recollection" was so popular that it was certified as a platinum record by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2008!  Opening for Credence Clearwater Revisited is Blue Oyster Cult at 7:00 pm.  Concert goers will be bringing their cowbells for their famous song "Don't Fear the Reaper." 

We'll party in the Port of Dubuque on Friday, June 12th for the festival's first Beach Party! 

Live music by the Chicago based band "The Spazmatics" will keep the crowd movin' and groovin'. The  Spazmatics will take the stage at 9 pm and will bring us back to the 80's and those fun dance moves that we would all love to forget.  Gather your favorite parrot head, Gilligan's Island or nerd outfit and head to the main stage area at 8:30 pm where awards will be given for the best costumes!  Opening for "The Spazmatics" will be local favorite 50 Pound Rooster at 6:30 p.m.

The America's River Festival will also feature a great line up of local and regional entertainers as well, including the Johnny Walker & Ralph Kluseman Band, the Main Street Jazz Band, the Mississippi Band featuring A Pirate Over 50 and the Buzz Berries.

"The America's River Festival has become the signature festival for the Dubuque area.  For many, this party in the Port of Dubuque signifies the unofficial start of the summer season.  America's River Festival generates an estimated $1,800,000 in economic impact.  In today's economy, we cannot underestimate the relevance of this kind of financial boost to our community," said Molly Grover, President of the America's River Corporation. 

The festival is back with many of our local favorites. Dock Dogs makes a splashing return. Think your pooch has some jumping or swimming talent? You, too, can enter your dog into the challenge! Simply go to the official Dock Dogs website (www.dockdogs.com) and link to the registration.

Interested in competing in a bean bag tournament?  Come on down on Saturday, June 13 for the tournament being sponsored by Courtside. Pre-registration is required and can be done by contacting Courtside Sports Bar & Grill at 563.583.0574

We are also excited to bring back "Dubuque Idol!" The first 20 contestants ages 12 to 18 who register will compete a capella for our judges. The judges will narrow down the contestants to the top five of which one will be awarded the title of "2009 Dubuque Idol".   To register for this event, call 563.557.9200 ext. 271 and leave a message. Our America's River Festival staff will be in touch via phone to verify if your contestant has been chosen to participate. Think you know someone who has talent?  Make sure to enter them!

Need a little exercise or simply enjoy running or biking a few miles? Grab you running and biking gear and compete in the FIRST America's River Festival Duathlon. The registration is $50.00 per person. Registration will take place at the Mystique Casino on Friday, June 12 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm The event consists of a 1.5 mile run followed by a 17 mile bike ride and finishing with a 3.1 mile run.   

Oh and don't worry, we didn't forget about the kids. In fact this year, we are going bigger than ever before! Monster Truck Rides return as a favorite of last year's crowd along with the kid favorite inflatable rides. NEW this year are water inflatable's for your kids to enjoy, so don't forget the swim suits!  Also available will be the Big Dawg NASCAR Racing Simulators.

Also NEW this year will be a special appearance by the Cat in the Hat and Curious George on Sunday, June 14. These two guests are making their way for a special stop in Dubuque. You won't want to miss them! And of course, throughout the weekend we will make sure that you have some great food options from our local vendors.

Friday admission is FREE to the festival, beach party and concerts. Saturday, admission to the festival and standing concert area is $10 with children 12 and under free. $25 Reserved tickets for Credence Clearwater Revisited can be purchased through Ticketmaster or Five Flags. On Sunday admission is free to the festival.

Parking will be complimentary in the newly constructed Port of Dubuque Parking Ramp adjacent to the festival. Complimentary trolley shuttle from the Mystique Casino on Friday from 5 pm to 11 pm and Saturday from noon to 8 pm.  For more information, visit www.traveldubuque.com
