FAYETTE COUNTY (KWWL) -- A search for a missing Fayette County man was called off Tuesday morning.

This comes after law enforcement discovered an empty vehicle Saturday evening.

Around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office found a vehicle in the middle of the road on G Ave., near Aurora. The driver, Trent Allen Smith of Oelwein, was not in the car or the immediate area. Friends and family have not heard from Smith, and that's when area law enforcement launched an official search.

Following a ten-hour search of more than 22 square miles in Fayette and Buchanan County, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office stopped the physical search for Smith.

The Sheriff's office at this time does not suspect any foul play and will continue to investigate and follow up on any leads.

Smith is 5'11', 180 pounds and 44 years old. The search is being conducted by several local and state agencies including the Fayette County Sherriff's Department, Iowa State Patrol, Oelwein Police Department and several fire departments.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fayette County Sheriff's Office at  (563) 422-6067.
