Fundraisers planned for assaulted police officer

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The Cedar Rapids Police Protective Association and the Cedar Rapids Police Auxiliary are the driving force behind numerous fund raising events that are being planned for Officer Tim Davis. On March 29, 2009, Officer Davis responded to a robbery call where he located three suspects. He was assaulted and has been hospitalized in ICU since this incident. The injury sustained by Officer Davis has been life threatening and the prognosis is still unknown.

Because of this and the outcry from the community to help, numerous fundraising activities have been planned.

-April 14, 2009 - The Tim Davis Benefit Dinner will be held at the Teamster's Hall, 5000 J St SW. The cost is $15. Brats and chili will be served, beginning at 6:00 PM and will continue until the food runs out.

-April 18, 2009 - Grace Baptist Church, 1461 East Post Rd, Marion, IA, will be having a Pancake Breakfast. The cakes will be served from 7:30 AM -12:30 PM. The cost is $5 per person.

-April 20, 2009 - Texas Roadhouse, 2520 Corridor Way, in Coralville, IA, will donate 10% of the nights proceeds to Officer Tim Davis' family. This will run from 4:00 - 11:00 PM.

-April 27, 2009 - Texas Roadhouse, 2605 Edgewood Rd SW in Coralville, IA, will donate 10% of the nights proceeds to Officer Tim Davis' family. This will run from 4:00 - 11:00 PM.

-May 17, 2009 - A benefit concert will be held for Officer Tim Davis at the Chrome Horse Slophouse and Saloon, 1202 2 St SE. Admission will be $10. There will be multiple bands from 2:00-8:00 PM.

-Royal Blue Wrist bands have been ordered and should be arriving later this week. These wrist bands will be sold at all Collins Credit Unions, some local high schools and the Cedar Rapids Police Department. The wrist bands will say "Davis 929" in reference to Officer Davis and his pin number and will be sold for $5 each.

-There are jars at cash registers at various stores in Cedar Rapids for change. -A silent auction is also being planned. Items are being collected and a location, date and times will be coming in the future as well.

-A T-shirt is also in the works. There will be one t shirt that will be authorized/sponsored by the family. We are hopeful that these will be approved by the family and begin to be printed over the next few days. More information on this to come as well.

-A fund has been established at Collins Credit Union through the Cedar Rapids Police Protective Association. Anyone   wishing to offset Officer Davis' expenses for the family (food, parking, hotels, etc.) as well as the long term expenses that   will accrue, can simply go to any Collins Credit Union and make a donation to the CRPPA - FBO Tim Davis (FBO means   for the Benefit of.)
