Fraud trial to start for chiropractor in CR

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP)--Trial is to begin for a Cedar Rapids chiropractor charged with nearly 40 counts of mail fraud, identify theft and money laundering.

Douglas Dvorak is accused of filing fraudulent Medicaid claims from late 2005 to early 2007.

His trial is to start on Monday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids.

Prosecutors say Dvorak acquired names and birth dates of adults and children eligible for Medicaid and created the fraudulent claims for chiropractic services never performed.

The claims were then mailed to Medicaid for reimbursement and the checks were mailed to Dvorak, who allegedly withdrew the proceeds from his bank account.

Dvorak is charged with 22 counts of mail fraud, 10 counts of aggravated identity theft and five counts of money laundering.
