Waterloo Phelps Youth Pavilion: 1 year old

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The interactive Phelps Youth Pavilion in Waterloo is one year old.

This weekend, the expansion to the Waterloo Center for the Arts offered one dollar admission, door prizes, and much more for the anniversary festivities.  The state of the art center offers kids everything from a virtual tractor drive through a grant wood painting, to a stroll through history back to pre-historic times.  In one year, nearly 37,000 people have come to check out the hands-on activities.

"It's really exciting for us, we're building tomorrow's leaders and they need to know how that creative side of their brain works and we hope to develop that from the ground up," said Shannon Farlow with the Waterloo Center for the Arts.

The festivities continue Sunday until 5:00 p.m.  The center hopes to expand classes and workshops to get more people involved.
