Police: recovery update on officer Tim Davis

CEDAR RAPIDS (NEWS RELEASE) -- April 4, 2009 -Cedar Rapids Police and the family of Officer Tim Davis are excited to give an update of the injured Officer. He has never been in a drug induced coma, but heavily sedated. For the last 48 hours, the doctors have been reducing the sedatives and now are treating him with pain medication. The swelling of the brain has not increased over the last 3 days and it is expected to begin to decrease. He is responding to pain (pinching) but is not responding to verbal commands (i.e. "squeeze my finger") It will take weeks to months to see the actual damage that has been done to the brain.

The Davis Family and the Police Department has been overwhelmed with the community support and has felt the strength through the community's prayers. "The power of prayer and the positive comments from the community is what has gotten the family and our officers and employees through this week. I truly believe that it is because of these prayers for Tim and the support we have received from our citizens and other law enforcement agencies, that Tim is doing so well," says Chief Greg Graham. The Department and the Officer Davis' family ask that the community continue to pray for Tim, that he will pull thru and be whole again.

There will be more information on Monday as to the upcoming fundraisers sponsored by various groups.
