Poll: Iowans split towards gay couples

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- A just finished University of Iowa poll shows only about one-third of Iowans oppose both gay marriage and civil unions for same-sex couples.

26% of Iowans surveyed support gay marriage. Another 28% support civil unions but not gay marriage.

This issue has a big generation gap. The University of Iowa poll found nearly 60% of iowans under age 30 support gay marriage.

Political party also plays a key role with just 7% of Republicans supporting gay marriage.
