Waterloo couple reacts to ruling on gay marriage

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Gay couples in the Cedar Valley and all over the state are celebrating the supreme court's decision.
They say it's a major step in the fight for equal rights and a victory that assures that all Iowans have access to marriage, security, dignity, and the protections it provides.

Despite Iowa being known as a midwestern conservative state, gay couples say they also know how progressive Iowa is on certain issues.

Nick Hedrick and his partner John Hayes have been together for three years.  They say times have changed in Iowa.   Nick says, "As the younger generations are getting older they don't care if you're gay, straight, bi, or lesbian. They don't care anymore it's become more mainstream that it's just another person and not your sexual orientation."

Hedrick says the next step he will be watching for is what the Iowa legislature will do with this decision.
