Massive arrests in Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids (KWWL) - There were massive arrests in Cedar Rapids Wednesday.

More than 50 inmates are being accused of "having a big heart for Jerry's Kids."

The volunteers were "arrested and served time" in a mock jail in an effort to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

MDA funds research at the University of Iowa, provides patient care services to over 400 eastern Iowans, and sends kids to Camp Courageous in Monticello.

"ALS has been around for quite awhile, and to raise money to help fight that, to find those research dollars so we can figure out what causes this so we can find a cure would just be wonderful," said Teresa Cooper, MDA District Director.

Organizers exceeded their goal, raising $36,000.
