Woman sentenced in plot to kill husband

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -- A Waterloo woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for trying to hire someone to kill her ex-husband.

Thirty-one-year-old Kathleen Faichney sought probation but Judge Jon Fister sentenced her Tuesday to five years in prison, the maximum penalty for the crime.

Waterloo police received information about the plot in November and an undercover officer posed as a hit man in a meeting with Faichney. Police say she gave the undercover officer cash as payment.

Faichney entered an Alford plea in February. The plea means she didn't admit guilt but acknowledged there was a strong possibility she would be found guilty if the case went to trial.
