Marion, IA (KWWL) - If you don't have a green thumb, but would like to learn, there are free local seminars.

Culver's Garden Center & Greenhouse is planning several free spring and summer seminars open to the public.  

Veggies and Herbs in Pots and Containers will be held Tuesday, April 14th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The free seminar will focus on growing vegetables, herbs and more in containers in order to enjoy the benefits of homegrown produce, even in limited space.

Veggie Gardening 101 will be held Tuesday, May 12th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This seminar will help people learn how to grow their own food right in their yard in order to decrease weekly grocery bills and eat more healthfully. 

Digging In: The Basics of Gardening, Part 1 will be held Tuesday, May 26th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This two-part seminar helps gardening novices start and maintain culinary or flower gardens. Part 1 addresses soil preparation and choosing the right tools for the job. Participants may attend Part 1, Part 2 or both.

  

Digging In: The Basics of Gardening, Part 2 will be held Tuesday, June 2nd from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This two-part seminar helps gardening novices start and maintain culinary or flower gardens. Part 2 addresses choosing and maintaining plants. Participants may attend Part 1, Part 2 or both.

Japanese Beetle and Other Pest Control will be held Tuesday, June 9th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. June is the time to prepare trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials to fight off Japanese Beetles and other pests. This seminar will show participants how.

Composting 101 will be held Tuesday, July 14th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Participants will learn how composting can be an efficient and cost-effective way to recycle table and yard scraps into nutrients for gardens.
