Economy changes farmer's crops

Waterloo (KWWL) - The USDA expects farmers in states like Iowa to plant more corn this year, but nationally, the corn crop is expected to drop for the second straight year.

The Ag Department says lower prices and the unstable cost of fertilizer are discouraging some farmers from growing corn. The crop is expected to total 85 million acres, down one percent from a year ago.

The total U.S. acreage still would be the third largest in the last 60 years.
