The bad got worse

Moorhead, Minnesota (KWWL) - The Red river continues to drop, but in many areaa across the upper Midwest, the water is still more than double flood stage, and now the area is dealing with a spring blizzard.

The commander of North Dakota's National Guard is expecting the Red River to rise again from melting ice and an expected snowstorm.

Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk says the snowstorm "does raise a great concern" about adding water to already flooding streams.

He told state lawmakers he doesn't know when the crest will occur or how high it will be.

By midday, the Red had fallen to just above 39 feet at Fargo, but city officials have said they wouldn't breath easy until it falls to 37 feet or lower.

The National Guard have been scrambling to place sheets of plastic over the levees to help them hold up against high waves, expected from the storm. Crashing waves could threaten the dikes.
