Escarcega pleads guilty to vehicular homicide

MUSCATINE COUNTY (KWWL,AP)-- An Iowa City man has pleaded guilty to two counts of homicide by vehicle.

Edgar Escarcega says he is responsible for a car crash that killed Johnna Jamieson and her son, 15 year old Nikita Jamieson in December 2008  near west liberty.

Escarcega had a blood alcohol level of nearly twice the legal limit.

Each of the charges is a Class B felony that carries a maximum 25-year prison sentence that cannot be deferred or suspended.

Escarcega must pay $300,000 in mandatory restitution and faces deportation after he is released from prison.

Escarcega will remain in the Muscatine County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
