Man pleads guilty to 2 counts of homicide

MUSCATINE (AP) -- An Iowa City man has pleaded guilty for a car crash that killed a West Branch woman and her son in December.

Edgar Escarcega pleaded guilty to two counts of homicide by vehicle on Friday.

Johnna Jamieson and her son, Nikita Jamieson, 15, died in the Dec. 6, 2008, collision near West Liberty in eastern Iowa. Escarcega had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.191, more than twice the legal level of 0.08.

Each of the charges is a Class B felony that carries a maximum 25-year prison sentence that cannot be deferred or suspended.

Escarcega must pay $300,000 in mandatory restitution and faces deportation after he is released from prison.

Escarcega will remain in the Muscatine County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
