The future of Iowa's teachers

Cedar Falls (KWWL) - Each year 500 students graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in hopes of becoming teachers, and today they got a lesson of their own.

The director of the Iowa Department of Education spoke at UNI Wednesday on the state of education in Iowa. With more than 2,500 students majoring in education each year, Judy Jeffrey says it's critical faculty stay informed on education issues.

"We're going to be looking at higher accountability for our teachers but i think in ways that go beyond stnaderdized test score, no one is really satisfied with that but we can not leave this air of accountability," said Jeffrey.

Jeffrey also wants Iowa schools to focus on the quality of teaching and higher levels of learning.
