Workers needed for paid flood recovery jobs

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - As a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the Cedar Rapids community is about to get an enormous boost.

VISTA Flood Recovery is seeking to recruit 75 people for summer jobs and 75 people for year long jobs to assist with meeting the needs of the Cedar Rapids community.  Community Corrections Improvement Association (CCIA), which currently oversees 24 yearlong AmeriCorps*VISTA members, 23 AmeriCorps members, 5 Green Corps members and the Foster Grandparent Program, will manage the volunteers.

VISTA members receive a monthly living allowance of $833 per month which does not affect benefits that they may be currently receiving-including food stamps and unemployment.  Members also receive an educational award at the end of service, $1000 for summer associates and $4725 for those making a year long commitment.  In addition, year long members receive health insurance and may qualify for childcare assistance.

Informational sessions have been set for Thursday, April 2, Wednesday, April 8 and Wednesday, April 15 at 6:00 pm at the Faches Center, 951 29th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids.  An overview will be provided of the program, with computers provided to complete the online application process.  Applicants will have the opportunity for on-site interviews.
