Loebsack announces housing money

WASHINGTON, DC (KWWL)-Iowa Second District Congressman, Dave Loebsack, is announcing new, afforable housing money for Iowans.

Loebsack's office says $ 2, 593,744 will be distributed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Public Housing Capital Fund Program. Congressman Loebsack says this new money will allow local housing agencies to make long term improvements to public housing units while creating jobs and increasing energy efficiency.

"Affordable housing is critical for every Iowan," said Congressman Loebsack. "By investing in housing, we create savings in the long term while spurring economic growth now. These funds will go to our housing authorities and empower them to make long term improvements that will increase energy efficiency while creating jobs in Iowa."

HUD's Capital Fund Program provides funding annually to public housing authorities to develop, modernize, and finance housing units. This funding can also be used to make large-scale improvements on units.

The follow agencies will receive funding:

  • Ottumwa Housing Authority: $601,765.00
  • Lone Tree Housing Commission: $26,040.00
  • Low Rent Housing Agency of Burlington: $317,787.00
  • Iowa City Housing Authority: $191,853.00
  • Keokuk Housing Authority: $347,950.00
  • Centerville Municipal Housing Agency: $167,774.00
  • Fort Madison Housing Authority: $233,773.00
  • Muscatine Municipal Housing Agency: $256,366.00
  • Area XV Multi-County Housing Agency: $160,544.00 (which encompasses the following counties in the Second District )
  • o Appanoose
  • o Davis
  • o Jefferson
  • o Van Buren
  • o Wapello
  • o Washington
  • o Wayne
  • Eastern Iowa Regional Housing Authority: $289,892.00 (which encompasses Cedar County in the Second District)
