Wetherby neighborhoods plan garage sale for splash pad fundraiser

IOWA CITY (NEWS RELEASE) Outstanding deals, one-of-a-kind items, and just the thing you've been looking for. No matter what it is you're trying to find, chances are good that you'll locate it at the Grant Wood and Wetherby Neighborhood Associations' second annual Garage Sale, scheduled Saturday, April 4th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grant Wood School Gymnasium, 1930 Lakeside Drive.

The event is being held as a fundraiser for the purchase and installation of a splash pad water playground in Wetherby Park at the end of Taylor Drive. The neighborhood associations have been working together for more than two years to raise funds for the structure, which would provide a safe and entertaining form of recreation for children in their neighborhood. Plans call for installing the water feature sometime this summer.

Donations for the garage sale will be accepted Friday, April 3 at the Grant Wood Gym from 6 to 8 p.m. and again early Saturday morning. If you are interested in donating large items such as furniture, appliances or large exercise equipment, please contact Grant Wood Neighborhood Association Coordinator Chris Harms at the phone number listed below, as all large items require prior approval.

For more information, or if you are willing to help volunteer for the event, contact Beth Koppes, Wetherby Friends and Neighbors Coordinator, at 354-1335, or Chris Harms, Grant Wood Neighborhood Association Coordinator, at 337-3863.
