DES MOINES (KWWL) -- No court dates for Jewish holidays.  That's the request the former manager of a kosher slaughterhouse in northeast Iowa is asking the court regarding his case.

Sholom Rubashkin's attorney filed the notice Monday in response to a calendar request initiated by the court.

Rubashkin, former manager of Agriprocessors in Postville, faces 97 charges, including accusations of immigration violations, bank fraud and money laundering.

He and three other defendants and the company were indicted months after 389 people, most from Mexico and Guatemala, were arrested in a May 12 immigration raid at the plant.

In the notice, Rubashkin's attorneys list about 30 days for religious observance or preparation when court proceedings should not be held.
