Eastern Iowa colleges compete in energy contest

WAVERLY (KWWL) -- A couple eastern Iowa college rivals are hoping to grab an energizing win.

All February, Wartburg College in Waverly and Luther College in Decorah competed to see which could save the most energy. The schools say this year's contest is a pilot for hopefully a larger competition.

"We've gotten a lot of organization on campus. Before its been kind of small groups doing one thing or another to try and promote energy conservation and with this competition we have lots of groups on campus working together to try and do everything at the same time," said Eric Dreibelbeis, the competition co-coordinator at Wartburg College.

Officials ruled the contest a draw with Wartburg students saving more electricity while Luther conserved more natural gas.
