Caucus time off measure approved

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- The Iowa Senate has approved a measure giving workers the opportunity to take time off to attend caucuses.

The Senate approved the measure on a 35-13 vote, with no debate.

The measure is designed to deal with criticism that the caucuses are exclusionary and don't allow broad participation.

Workers would have to give at least two week's notice that they want the time off, and it would be unpaid leave.

Emergency workers such as firefighters and police are excluded under the measure.
