LIHEAP requests up in down economy


WATERLOO (KWWL) -- With the troubled economy -- more Iowans are applying for help with utility bills.

The Low-income Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, extended its deadline to apply for assistance through May 29th in order to help those impacted by the recession. The program helps pay a portion of heating bills.

Operation Threshold reports a 12% increase in the number of people applying for LIHEAP help.
