Camanche man sentenced on gun charge

CLINTON (AP)--A man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for carrying a weapon while on the job at the Clinton Streets Department.

Jon Hartsell, of Camanche, pleaded guilty to one count of carrying a weapon in connection with a Nov. 22 incident. A second count was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Under the agreement, 29 days of the 30-day sentence were suspended and credit was given for one day served. Hartsell also will pay a $625 fine and serve one year of probation.

Officials say a no-contact order was issued that prohibits 50-year-old Hartsell from having contact with streets department employees.

Court documents say some of the employees alleged that Hartsell had carried the weapon at the public works garage on several occasions in 2008.
