St. Luke's reduces two services beginning in April

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- St. Luke's Hospital announced Wednesday it will reduce services at it's Women's Health Spa and Home Care Services.

The hospital says the services needed to be reevaluated because they were not meeting strategic or financial goals and they are also "less central to our core strength as a community hospital."

As of April 10, the Women's Health Spa will discontinue skin care and fitness services. And St. Luke's Home Care Services will discontinue providing IV Infusion Therapy and Private Duty Nursing Services on April 17.

According to the hospital, 11 full-time and 32 part-time or as needed associates will be affected. Some will be offered other positions at the hospital, others will receive a severance package and job placement assistance.

"We have evaluated these services for many years and tried to make them financially viable but it is clear that their goals are not being met," said John Sheehan, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

St. Luke's says other areas of the hospital, including the Emergency Department and the Heart Care division are continuing to expand and see an increase in patients.
