ELGIN (KWWL) -- An Elgin couple face several child endangerment charges for injuries to their child.

The Fayette County Sheriff's office says it arrested the couple Wednesday after a three-week long investigation.

Luis F. Perez, 27 and Chantel P. L. Perez, 20 are charged with multiple acts of child endangerment.

The Perez's have a ten month old child who is now being treated for multiple skeletal fractures by the Mayo Clinic Pediatrics Hospital in Rochester, MN. Police say the infant was taken to the West Union Hospital by a concerned Family member the first week of March and later transferred.

The sheriff's office says some of the child's fractures were healing fractures and others were more recent. The Department of Human Services is also working the case and taking the necessary precautions for the child.

Right now, both Perez's are in the Fayette County Jail on $100,000.00 bond. The sheriff's office has contacted the Immigrations Customs Enforcement (ICE) to investigate the Allien status of Luis F. Perez in the United States.

The child endangerment charges are a class "B" felony. If convicted each could serve a sentence of no more than 50 years in prison.
