Absentee ballots available for LOST vote

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Absentee ballots for the May 5 Local Option Sales and Services Tax special election are available now in the Linn County Elections Office at Westdale Mall. Voters may vote absentee in person Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Request forms for absentee ballots may also be downloaded from the Linn County website at www.linncounty.org/auditor. The last day to request an absentee ballot to be mailed is Friday, May 1, 2009. The last day to vote absentee is Monday, May 4, 2009. Absentee ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by May 4.

Voters in the Linn County jurisdictions of Center Point, Hiawatha, Marion, Robins and Walford will vote May 5, 2009, on whether to implement a one-cent local option sales and services tax. If passed, the tax will begin July 1, 2009, and will end June 30, 2014. Revenue purpose statements for each jurisdiction are available on the Linn County Auditor's website at www.linncounty.org/auditor or by calling (319) 892-5300. All other jurisdictions in Linn County have approved a local option sales tax and will not be participating in this election.

Polling locations for the May 5 special election are available on the Linn County Auditor's website at www.linncounty.org/auditor or by calling (319) 892-5300. Poll hours are 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for all jurisdictions.

The same issue will be up for vote in Johnson County May 5 as well.
