HVAAA announces meals for April

Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging has its April meals planned.  Each meal includes milk. Meals are offered on a contribution basis for people over 60 year of age. Actual cost for the meal is $6. People under 60 must pay the actual cost.

There are two menu options on most days of the month. Meals must be ordered in advance. All meals must be ordered by 9 a.m. the day before receiving a meal. Preference for Option A or B must be given at time of order - if no preference is given, Option A will be served.

April 1:

A:  Sliced ham, macaroni and cheese, brussel sprouts, cornbread, margarine, cinnamon applesauce.

B:  Meatballs/tomato sauce, macaroni and cheese, brussel sprouts, cornbread, margarine, cinnamon applesauce.

April 2:

A:  Lasagna casserole, mixed vegetables, tossed salad, dressing, breadstick, peanut butter cookie.

B:  Tuna macaroni salad, country tomatoes, green pea salad, breadstick, peanut butter cookie.

April 3:

A:  Herbed pork loin, red potatoes, spinach, multi-grain bread, margarine, tropical fruit.

B:  Chef Special - Tuna mac and cheese.

April 6:

A:  Oven fried chicken, cut yams, cabbage w/tomatoes, multi-grain bread, margarine, fresh orange.

B:  Chef salad, dressing, apple juice, saltine crackers, fresh orange.

April 7:

A:  Hamburger patty, hamburger bun, catsup, crispy cube potatoes, lettuce, tomato, onion, pineapple crisp.

B:  Breaded chicken patty, hamburger bun, mayo, crispy cube potatoes, lettuce, tomato, onion, pineapple crisp.

April 8:

A:  Roast beef with gravy, whipped potatoes, green beans, wheat bread, margarine, strawberry cake with white frosting, ice cream.

B:  No alternative.

April 9:

A:  Chicken fettuccini, lima beans, stewed tomatoes, multi-grain bread/margarine, diced peaches.

B:  Cream of broccoli soup, sliced ham/cheese, lettuce, tomato, mustard, white bread, diced peaches.

April 10:  Spring Holiday - Brunch - Served 1 hour early.

A:  Western omelet, O'Brien potatoes, orange juice, biscuit, margarine, rosey applesauce.

B:  No alternative.

April 13:

A:  Meatloaf/tomato gravy, oven roasted potatoes, brussel sprouts/cheese, multi-grain bread, margarine, fresh fruit.

B:  Chicken fingers/gravy, oven roasted potatoes, brussel sprouts/cheese, multi-grain bread, margarine, fresh fruit.

April 14:

A:  Chicken w/mushrooms, whip potato w/skins, spinach, multi-grain bread, margarine, fresh fruit.

B:  Tomato basil soup, crabmeat mac salad, corn salad, saltine crackers, fresh fruit.

April 15:

A:  Beef chili mac, tossed salad, dressing, whole kernel corn, wheat bread, margarine, strawberry swirl pudding.

B:  Chef salad, dressing, pineapple juice, wheat bread, strawberry swirl pudding.

April 16:

A:  Turkey breast/gravy, cut yams, green beans, wheat roll, margarine, coconut cake/frosting.

B:  Sliced roast beef, sliced cheese, hamburger bun, mustard, lettuce, tomato, beet salad, coconut cake/frosting.

April 17:

A:  Hot ham and cheese, hamburger bun, mustard, baked beans, potato salad, oatmeal cookie.

B:  Chef Special - Sloppy Joe

April 20:

A:  Chicken/supreme sauce, mixed beans, spinach, multi-grain bread, margarine, fresh fruit.

B:  Tuna salad, broccoli salad, carrifruit salad, saltine crackers, fresh fruit.

April 21: 

A:  Shepherd's pie, stewed tomatoes, fruit juice blend, white bread, margarine, sugar cookie.

B:  Chicken Caesar salad, fruit juice blend, white bread/margarine, sugar cookie.

April 22:

A:  Apple glaze pork patty, baked potato, sour cream, diced beets, multi-grain bread, margarine, tropical fruit.

B:  Cream of mushroom soup, sliced turkey/cheese, lettuce and tomato, multi-grain bread/mustard, tropical fruit.

April 23:

A:  Breaded chicken patty, hamburger bun, mayo, lyonnaise potatoes, coleslaw, peach crisp.

B:  BBQ pork, hamburger bun, lyonnaise potatoes, coleslaw, peach crisp.

April 24:

A:  Country fried steak, country gravy/parsley, whipped potatoes, French green beans, wheat bread, margarine, strawberry gelatin with fruit.

B:  Chef  Special - Sloppy Joe

April 27:

A:  Chicken fingers, honey mustard sauce, macaroni and cheese, broccoli, white bread, margarine, diced pears.

B:  Meatballs with gravy, macaroni and cheese, broccoli, white bread, margarine, diced pears.

April 28:

A:  Turkey rice casserole, parslied carrots, parmesan tomatoes, multi-grain bread, margarine, fresh banana.

B:  Sliced ham/cheese, lettuce and tomato, three bean salad, wheat bread/mustard, fresh banana.

April 29:

A:  Smoked sausage, hot dog bun/mustard, tater gems, mixed vegetables, cranapplesauce.

B:  Chef salad, dressing, pineapple juice, wheat roll, cranapplesauce.

April 30:

A:  Salisbury beef, brown gravy, whipped potatoes, green beans, rye bread, margarine, brownie.

B:  Southwest chicken salad, rye bread, margarine, fresh fruit, brownie.

May 1:

A:  Garlic rosemary chicken, red potatoes, cabbage with tomatoes, multi-grain bread, margarine, pumpkin pudding.

B:  Chef Special - Liver and onions.

HVAAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation serving elders in Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Chickasaw, Grundy, Hardin, Marshall, Poweshiek and Tama counties. HVAAA coordinates services for people ages 60 and older and their caregivers to maintain the independence they desire. Some of the services provided by HVAAA include home delivered meals, caregiver support and respite services, case management services, congregate meals, public information and education, Senior Helpline, and advocacy.
