Hancock County OKs egg farm near Corwith

Corwith (AP)--Hancock County supervisors have approved plans for an egg farm with 6 million chickens near Corwith in northern Iowa.

The board OK'd the proposal on Monday, despite concerns from neighbors about flies, stormwater runoff and manure management.

Hawkeye Pride Egg Farms, LLP, plans to build the farm on 120 acres. It will include an egg cracking facility, layer farm and feed mill.

The project now goes to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

If the state approves it, the project will be completed in two phases. The total cost is about $100 million. The plant will create 75 full-time positions.
