Girl Scout Great Design Challenge

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- A group of girls tested their science skills in the Girl Scout Great Design Challenge.

The group learned about how to make a switch and how electricity works by turning cardboard, wires, and batteries into a pad that buzzes when stepped on.

The three hour challenge was part of the Girl Scout initiative to encourage girls to develop critical thinking.

"We find it really important and we focus on what we need to have in a girl's life so that we can build courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place," Girl Scouts of North Iowa and Illinois Program Manager Jamie Harrington said.

Even though this event was put on by the girl scouts, any girl in black hawk county in 4th or 5th grade could attend.  For more information on such programs visit http://www.gseiwi.org/
