Officers found guilty of sexual abuse

CRESTON (KWWL) -- Two former Creston police officers are behind bars: one accused of raping a bartender, the other of letting it happen.

After spending the day deliberating, the jury convicted both men of second degree sexual abuse, Friday.

For eight days, the jury heard from more than a dozen witnesses, including the 45-year-old accuser and both of the accused, James Christensen and John Sickels.

In closing arguments, the defense and prosecution used the same word to describe this case. One says it's a nightmare to be accused of a crime you didn't commit. The other says there's no escaping the nightmare of being raped.

The defense argued that didn't happen, they say Sickles had consensual sex with the woman last April at the Crestmoor Country Club.

Sentencing for the two men has not been set, but both are facing a maximum of 25 years in prison.
