Delaware shooting victim identified

DELAWARE COUNTY (KWWL) -- The Delaware County Sheriff's Department confirms a 48 year-old woman was shot Friday morning around 9:30 a.m.

The sheriff's office tells us Jean Smith was the victim.  She has gone through surgery and is expected to recover.

It happened at 1435 165th Street in rural Delaware County. Smith told officers at the scene she was shot by her ex-boyfriend after an argument. She was taken to the Regional Medical Center in Manchester and then airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

According to the Delaware County Sheriff the suspect, 50 year-old Robert Krogmann, was found near his home in Manchester shortly after he left the Smith's house. Krogmann was taken to the Delaware County Jail and charged with Attempt to Commit Murder.  Krogmann used a handgun but officials aren't releasing how many shots were fired.

Sheriff John LeClere says Smith was conscious when she was transported to Regional Medical Center in Manchester.

The Department of Criminal Investigation, State Patrol, Manchester Police, and Delaware County Sheriff are investigating.
