Son of Iowa City Regina administrator injured in Afghanistan

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The son of Iowa City Regina Activities Director, Chet Wisniewski, was injured in Afghanistan Wednesday when the helicopter he was in was shot down.

Air Force Captain David Wisniewski, 30, was among seven troops in the Air Force Pave Hawk helicopter when it was shot down in southern Afghanistan.

David's family isn't sure if he was piloting the helicopter at the time or if his co-pilot was at the controls.

Four were killed and the other three were injured, including David.

According to Wisniewski's family, David has had two surgeries in Germany to relieve pressure on his brain.  They say he is stable, but in critical condition with extensive head and brain injuries.

They say that if he remains stable, David will be flown from Germany to Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland on Friday.

David is stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada and is on his seventh tour of duty overseas.

He is engaged and the family says his fiance is still in Nevada.

The Wisniewski family is very thankful for all the thoughts and prayers they have received.
