DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- The first newspaper in what would eventually become Iowa was established May 11, 1836. John King published the Du Buque Visitor from what was then a part of the Wisconsin Territory.
The newspaper continued until June 3, 1937. A special centennial edition of the paper was issued in Dubuque on the 100th anniversary of its founding. It recognized the importance of the paper in the establishment of Iowa and its future development.
