CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The amount of leaves falling off the trees in Cedar Rapids have put collection crews even further behind, despite the long hours they have been putting in.
The Cedar Rapids Solid Waste and Recycling Division says their crews have been collecting more than 230 tons of leaves a day since Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
Crews worked until 10:00 p.m. on Friday to finish Thursday's routes.
They then worked on Saturday to try and complete Friday's routes, but only got halfway through before calling it quits at 6:00 p.m..
Crews will pick up where they left off today and continue to work long hours throughout this week in hopes of getting caught up by the end of the week.
Leaf collection is scheduled to run until December 11th, depending on the weather.
