Iowa tests for case of H1N1 flu

Posted:
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa is testing for a possible case of the H1N1 flu.

Black Hawk County health officials say a person showed up at a hospital or clinic on Tuesday with symptoms that met the case definition of the virus.

Spokesman Bruce Meisinger on Wednesday confirmed that samples have been sent to the University Hygienic Laboratory in Iowa City for confirmation. He says testing could take several days.

Meisinger refused to give details about the individual but say the person was showing certain symptoms of the case definition of H1N1 flu, which includes a temperature higher than 100 degrees. He says the person also had either traveled to an infected location or had close contact with a person who had traveled to one of those areas.

Meisinger didn't know if the person was hospitalized or what treatment was being used.
