CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A new program in eastern Iowa looks to provide free medical care to those who can't afford it.
Linn County's Project Access recruits doctors to pledge a certain amount of free care to uninsured Iowans. Then the program matches eligible, uninsured people in Linn County with those doctors. The Project Access model started in North Carolina in 1996 and now runs in more than 40 places. The group says studies show the program helps cut ER visits and health costs for other charity groups.
