KWWL returns to the air after power outage and electrical fire

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) For the second time in a week, a power outage knocked KWWL Television off the air. Both outages may be related to the Floods of 2008.

The most recent outage, shortly before 8:00 p.m. Monday, is blamed for a small fire in the KWWL building. An electrical motor in an air handling system burned up, sending smoke into the basement. Waterloo firefighters ventilated the building. No one was hurt.

MidAmerican Energy crews pumped a lot of water out of manholes before they could work on underground transformers in the area. They made repairs and KWWL returned to the air at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Last week Wednesday, a flood-related problem at a substation near Regions Bank knocked KWWL off the air for several hours. Both outages also affected part of downtown Waterloo.
