A man jumped off the 4th Street Bridge into the Cedar River while running from police on Wednesday.

Police say the man was in a custody dispute and did not want to give his child over to his ex-wife. Police say they made contact with the man when he dropped the child off at a friend's house and then ran from police.

Police say the man had expressed thoughts of suicide.

The man jumped in the river from the 4th Street Bridge and was pulled out of the water near the 11th Street Bridge.

Police say the man was taken to the hospital, but there is no information on his injuries.
