UNI installing solar panels

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL)--- Nine hundred photovoltaic solar panels are being installed at the University of Northern Iowa's new parking garage. The panels will generate enough energy to power the entire facility.  The multi-modal transportation center will also use a geo-thermal heating and cooling system.  It's all part of the college's commitment to green energy.

"If we can make facilities like this, it lessens our need to have oil wells that have potential problems like we're seeing these days. And I think UNI should be very proud of setting an example," said Tim Hickman, principal of Substance Architecture Interiors Design.

In addition to the solar panels themselves, UNI is planning to install a flat panel television on the lower level of the garage.  It will display information about the solar panels and how much they're producing.
