Campground improvements

MCGREGOR (KWWL)-- Iowa's camping season is underway and several campgrounds have made improvements to make your experience better.

Families all over Iowa will be spending summer vacations at campgrounds and Spook Cave and Campground is usually busy right away.

"Once school gets out in the summer time then we really start getting busy so we are just starting to ease into it in May and then kind of taper off in October. Defiantly the busiest months are July, August, and June." said Spook Cave and Campground Owner Paul Rasmussen.

Spook Cave and Campground is always looking to upgrade their campsite, but the most notable changes campers may see this year are the new log cabins.

"Each cabin sleeps six. That's something we get a lot of people renting cabins for either weekend or for a whole week. Come out get out of the city and enjoy nature." said Rasmussen.

The Amish built cabins are just the beginning of improvements planned for the campground. Campers may also see larger camp sites with better electrical access for modern campers.

Paul Rasmussen says no matter the changes, most campers just enjoy the great outdoors.

"You still are getting a vacation and getting away from home, getting to socialize and be with other camper. You get to hang out and that's what they really enjoy."

Spook cave is one of four privately-owned parks undergoing improvements here in Iowa.

At Sleepy Hollow Campground and R-V in Oxford...changes are coming for the swimming pool, deck area and shower house.

At the On-Ur-Way R-V Park in Onawa, a group meeting room has been built and Crossroads R-V Park in Mount Pleasant is going green.

They're using fluorescent lights, installing electric hand dryers, and adding recycling bins.
