Gallagher-Bluedorn Hosts WCFSO Holiday Concerts Saturday

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL)

Concert-goers are in for a real treat twice this Saturday, December 12, at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

It's the annual Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony holiday concerts: Holiday Pops: A Community Celebration. The WCFSO will present two concerts Saturday. The first is set for 2:00 Saturday afternoon. The second is Saturday night at 7:30. Both concerts will be played in the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.

These annual holiday concerts are especially popular because they also feature the very popular Metropolitan Chorale and a host of area choir members, who also team up with the WCFSO. That has become a much-anticipated Cedar Valley holiday tradition. WCFSO Music Director, Jason Weinberger, has his talented musicians fired up and ready to give you two spectacular holiday concerts.

Tickets are still available by calling 319-273- 4TIX, or 877-549-SHOW. You can also visit the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony website at: www.wcfsymphony.org. At the Saturday afternoon concert, the Symphony's Buck–A-Kid promotion will be valid.

The concerts will feature renditions of many seasonal favorites, such as White Christmas and Greensleeves, as well as selections from The Nutcracker. The traditional audience sing-along has become another very popular segment of the holiday concerts. You'll be able to join in with the choir and Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony for Handel's Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah. These concerts are for the entire family.

In addition, this year, the WCFSO holiday concerts will also benefit the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring with them non-perishable food items for donation to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.

Several Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Waverly churches will be represented in this year's select Holiday Pops Community Choir:

Cedar Falls churches include: Cedar Heights Community. Presbyterian, First United Methodist, Fredsville Lutheran, First Presbyterian, Cedar Falls Mennonite and Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran.

Waterloo churches represented in this year's select choir include: First Presbyterian, First Congressional United Church of Christ, Our Savior's Lutheran, Bethel Presbyterian and Trinity Episcopal Parish.

Waverly churches include: St. Andrew's Episcopal and St. Mary's Catholic Church.

This year's Holiday Pops Community Choir Director will be Dr. Thomas Reed, Director of Music Ministries at First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.

This year's holiday concerts are sponsored by Courier Communications. The Media sponsor is Mix 96.
