PALO (KWWL) --Thousands participated in a holiday fundraiser for Eastern Iowa flood victims Saturday.
The Palo Holiday Express gave train rides between Vinton and Palo Saturday.
Iowa Northern Railway donated the train for the day.
All the profits went to the Rebuilding Palo Fund and The Benton County Disaster Coalition.
"The rebuild Palo Fund specifically gives out money to the Palo community and although they were able to give out quite a bit of money last year, they weren't able to match everybody's needs. So the demand was still greater… we felt like there was something we could do to close that gap a bit," organizer Renee Nelson.
Last year the event made $34,000. If all of Saturday's trips sold out, they made $36,000.
