Dubuque Ride for Kids donates $35,000 to Children's Hospital

Posted:

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- The University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City received a $30,459.01 check for their pediatric brain tumor and heart defect research.  The money was raised by Ride for the Kids.

The 94-mile motorcycle ride/drive, in October,  started in Dubuque and made stops in Farley, Cascade, Bellevue, and St. Donatus.  The ride finished at Happy’s Place in Dubuque with a dinner, live auction and band.  Four participants also raised money and shaved their heads in honor of the cause.

Mark and Julie Reiss and Brian and Amanda Wessels organized the event after their daughter and son, Sarah, received care at UI Children’s Hospital.

“After experiencing, first hand, the excellent care and compassion of all the amazing people at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, we just wanted to give something back and try to help all the kids fighting brain tumors, heart defects, and all other terrible diseases. We just have to keep taking it “one day at a time” and hope and pray for a cure," said the Reiss family.

Dr. Tom Scholz, Dr. Sue O’Dorisio, and Dr. Raymond Tannous accepted the money last Thursday on behalf of the pediatric brain tumor and heart defect research teams.
