
DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Governor Chet Culver announced today that two Eastern Iowa groups will receive money as part of the I-Jobs initiative to help build a rehabilitate affordable housing.
Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity in Waterloo is getting $120,000 to help in the construction of four new affordable single-family homes in Waterloo and the purchase and rehabilitation of two single-family homes in Waverly.
The Housing Fellowship in Iowa City is getting $141,148 to rehabilitate and improve energy efficiency to 21 existing affordable rental units in Iowa City.
The funds are part of the Affordable Housing Grant Program which includes $20 million in funds to build or rehabilitate housing for certain elderly, disabled, and low-income persons and public servants in critical skills shortage areas of the state.
To date, more than $12 million from the program is committed. These awards leverage an additional $18,756,541 in other financing sources or $1.56 for every dollar of I-JOBS funds.
